Back pain: It depends on the cause of back pain. Typically cortisone injection is helpful if someone has disc bulging and failed conservative treatment.

Yes: It is possible it could help if the pain is from an irritated nerve that may be exiting your spine or irritated rib head. However, all other issues, including liver and gallbladder should be ruled out first. Consider manual manipulation and physical therapy as well. Physical exam is very important in your case to show exactly what pain is from. May need imaging to clarify.
