External otitis: Inflammation or infection external ear canal can cause tender tragus. Otc pain pilla and topical ear drop can take care of this . See your doctor.

Infection?: You may have a slight cellulitis on the area possibly from head phones or scratching the area. Any infected piercing there? I would have it examined start warm soaks but see a doctor asap because you may need an antibiotic or drainage if its infected. IT would not affect your hearing at this stage

Ear ache: Discomfort in the ear can be from pressure in the middle ear caused by blockage of the eustachian tube due to congestion in the back of the nose. This tube connects to the middle ear. You may have a viral upper respiratory tract infection with early signs of a head cold and beginning nasal congestion. If so, spray a nasal decongestant like Afrin and relieve any congestion in the back of the nose.

Much like the earlobe, this area is not that sensitive to pain, but it is slightly more sensitive than the ear lobe.  The ear canal, on the other hand, is very sensitive to pain.  I would caution against piercing this area as it puts the cartilage at risk for infection, called chonditis.
