No: If you truly have thrush, it won't go away just by wiping it off.  We usually use topical treatments like Nystatin or Clotrimazole losenges.  Sometimes we use a pill call fluconazole.  It depends on why you have thrush, and how extensive it is.  See your primary care doctor or ent. If you use a steroid inhaler, be sure to rinse your mouth afterwards. Yogurt or probiotics can help prevent thrush.

Medication: Take the appropriate anti-fungal medication and avoid those things that can increase your chances of getting it again.

Thrush: See your dermatologist and ask him or her if this is really thrush. At that time they may want to give you a special mouthwash or a dissolvable tablet called Mycelex (clotrimazole) troches.

Tongue taste buds: See your dentist or an oral surgeon. Many patients mistake vallate papilla near the back of the tongue for lesions or 'enlargements'. That whitish coating may be thrush if you've had an infection and antibiotic therapy lately. But it may just need brushing off. Only you can determine if you may have HIV, depending on your intimacy with partners who are infected. Get tested.

With an intact: Immune system thrush is usually only caused by oral inhaled steroid use of antibiotics.  Not normally a spontaneous illness.  If your "flu" was treated with antibiotics then that is the culprit.  Should be treated with oral antifungals.

i'm a diabetic. i think i have thrush on my tongue. could it possibly be in my larynx as well, causing loss of voice? smoker 1/2 pack also. thanks

i get thrush on my tongue if i haven't brushed my teeth yet or if i haven't eaten in while.my mom says i was born with it.what is it and can i fix it?

Thrush?: Thrush is a fungal infection and not related to eating or not eating.  One is not born with it.  You might have a coated tongue, lichen planus, or somethng else.  For now, start to use a tongue scraper once a day and see if that can solve the problem.  You also need to see a dentist to have it evaluated for a proper diagnosis and treatment if necessary.

on omnicef 300 my po bid and tamiflu 2 capsules daily. day 6 of omnicef and day five of tamiflu. my tongue is burning,  feels large in my mouth and no white coating like thrush i had over a year ago.  pos for flu b. do i have thrush? using inhaler.

Thrush: There is a good possibility that you have developed thrush as evidenced by your burning tongue

Uncertain: For significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician &amp; get a strep throat test &amp; culture. Antibiotics are imperative for Strep Throat.  Try saltwater gargles. Mix tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle w this several times/day. You can gargle w Aloe Vera juice a couple of times per day. A mix of chamomile tea w honey &amp; a small amt of lemon juice helps.

Not usually: Usually it has a white covering and is red underneath.  It can feel like a burning sensation.  F it does not go away soon see an oral surgeon or ENT physician for an evaluation.
