No: If you truly have thrush, it won't go away just by wiping it off. We usually use topical treatments like Nystatin or Clotrimazole losenges. Sometimes we use a pill call fluconazole. It depends on why you have thrush, and how extensive it is. See your primary care doctor or ent. If you use a steroid inhaler, be sure to rinse your mouth afterwards. Yogurt or probiotics can help prevent thrush.

No: You can't eliminate fungus by mechanical means. Fungus organisms grow very rapidly and quickly replace whatever you scrape away. Thrush is easily treated with a number of different medications.

Imbalance: Thrust is yeast. Yeast is a normal inhabitant of the oral environment and competes with the normal bacteria. When things get out of balance the yeast can over grow causing symptoms. Scraping may help and tongue scraping or brushing should be a regular habit. The imbalance will usually self correct in healthy individuals. Sometimes it requires treatment with anti fungal medications.
