Not usually: Usually it has a white covering and is red underneath. It can feel like a burning sensation. F it does not go away soon see an oral surgeon or ENT physician for an evaluation.

Yes: Any infection can cause swelling. Get the infection treated asap. Swollen tongue can cause airway obstruction. Don't put this off.
