i had a 3 mm wide canker sore in my mouth that has healed about 3 weeks ago. however, in its spot, there is now a white line/spot/scar that is there since the 3 weeks. it's inside the skin. what can it be? is this a cancerous mouth patch or ulcer?

: Cancerous lesions do not "heal" as you described... they would linger and look "angry". Your ulcer is most likely still healing, but for peace of mind you can always have your local dentist look at it.

Canker sores are common aphthous ulcers of mouth that occur situationally, often in response to stressors, are bacterial or viral, &amp; can be treated topically with many otc products that reduce local discomfort &amp; potentially speed healing. However, oral/dental problems &amp; a number of systemic diseases cause canker sore-like lesions--crohn's, behcet's, std (sexually transmitted).

Canker sores: are not pleasant and can be very painful. Canker sore is the most common oral lesions. Individual ulcers typically last 1-2 weeks. The condition is idiopathic (the cause is not known) and recurrent aphthous ulcers are usually self-limiting. Your dentist may prescribe an antimicrobial mouth rinse corticosteroid ointment to control the pain and irritation.

Canker sore: If it&#x27;s a true canker sore, it will go away in 5-14 days on its own. Avoid spicy and acidic foods. There are numerous otc medications\ointments available at the local pharmacy or supermarket to help it feel better.   Rinsing alternately with warm salt water or diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide often helps. If you need something stronger or wish quicker relief, see your own dentist.

Zilactin B: A good economical fix is to go to your local pharmacy an buy a product called zilactin. Dry the ulcer with cotton tip applicator the apply a small pea sized drop of the gel.  Wait until the gel becomes opaque. Plain zilactin stings. Zilactin recognized this and added Benzocaine to their product. The mixture is called zilactin b.   You might have a vitamin deficiency. Check with your primary care.

Palliative treatment: Yes they can get very big. You can apply topical ointment to area as a protective barrier. Aloe based work best for length of time before wearing off and it has anti inflammatory properties that will help heal faster
Avoid any spicy salty foods and acidic drinks and avoid alcohol

Go to appointment : Go see your dentist but make sure he and the staff know of your canker sore. They can cautiously treat you and may apply meds to your sore to quicken healing. Good luck.

Patience and meds: Aphthous ulcers (canker sores) usually heal in 7 - 10 days if nothing is done.  You can cover them with some over the counter medications that are available at nearly all pharmacies.  If they are real bad your dentist could prescribe a medication ointment bandage call orobase which may contain a steroid to decrease the imflammation.
