Personal choice: I think if it is going to be done it should be done in the newborn period with a local anesthetic. The infants often sleep through the procedure, it heals within a week and rare if any problems are encountered. Older kids or adults need a general anesthesia, sutures and slower healing. No= the most  uti's starting.

Easy to clean!: After the circumcision most OB doctors will wrap gauze lightly around the penis.  During the next week, keep that clean.  You may put some neosporin or other antibacterial ointment on the gauze to keep it clean.  Obviously changing the diaper frequently will be helpful.  If is very rare for this area to get infected.  If you see yellow pus or swelling, you should see your pediatrician!

Within a day or 2: The data shows a gradual increase in the frequency of complications as the baby gets older.Circ's done within the first day or 2 have a low rate of complication and rapid healing.

Circumcision care: I recommend applying bacitracin for the first couple of days after the circumcision, and then a liberal amount of either vaseline or A&amp;D ointment to the foreskin around the head of the penis with each diaper change for another couple of weeks. This will help prevent adhesions from forming. In general, frequent diaper changes are a good idea to avoid prolonged contact with urine and stool.

Simple surgery: The infant is placed on a restraint that holds the arms & legs.The penis is exposed & injected with a local anesthetic.Antiseptic is applied to the penis.A sterile drape is placed. Using clamps & scissors, the foreskin in opened on top & pealed back exposing the glans.A clamp is placed to protect the glans & provide a safe point to cut back the foreskin.Foreskin is removed & the procedure completed.

See below: There are some possible benefits to circumcision. Decreased urinary tract infections, decreased stda, and decreased risk from penile cancer, very rare. I always tell parents it should be a personal choice. And, a lot of parents choose not to circumcise, if dad is not.

Personal choice: In the us circumcision is commonplace, 70-90 %, France 30%, Australia 30%, Great Britain 10% (not covered by national health insurance). There is data suggesting increased life risks of UTI &amp; std if not &amp; I remember it being the most requested elective surgery among young enlisted men during my navy years. If it is done at all it is easiest and heals quickest in newborns.

Not a strong case, : Mostly judeo-christian ethic. Medicaid won't pay for in-hospital circumcisions because of lack  of medical necessity. There's a slightly higher rate of penile cancer in uncircumcised men ; some find hygiene difficult. You ; your son can learn  to pull the foreskin back gently as far as it'll comfortably go, wipe away the smegma (white stuff), then pull the foreskin back over the head of the penis.

Probably: Circumcision should always be done with anesthesia-usually a local injected nerve block.  Even so, it is a stress for the baby; there may be bleeding, which is not likely, but severe blood loss might make the situation more severe.  A few pvc's, however, can be normal. If your dr is in doubt, she could delay the circ until after evaluation by a pediatric cardiologist--but not beyond 2-3 wks of age.
