SBO: The major issue is with B-12 which is absorbed in the last part of the small bowel, and patients may then develop a megaloblastic anemia with large red blood cells. In older adults, small bowel bacterial overgrowth is associated with a higher frequency of diarrhea, a lower body mass index, and a significantly lower serum albumin concentration. Not aware of other vitamins lost thru this.

i'm an athlete. work out 5 days a week, take vitamins, but can't seem to get a flat stomach. i think i have yeast in my intestines?

So does everyone: Overgrowth of yeast and the symptoms that result are very popular topics of conversation in some circles, but don't have a lot of medical evidence backing them up.  If your stomach isn't flat and you're over weight, lose the pounds.  If you're not over weight, i wonder if you're comparing yourself to the unrealistic images seen in popular media.  Better to think of good health than flat stomach.

after one month of taking oral b12 vitamin of 500 mcg my level came back to normal. then after 3 months of quitting the vitamin, my level dropped to deficient level. could this indicate an issue of absorption in the intestines?

: Possibly. But nevertheless, oral B12 corrects the deficiency so you should probably stay on the vitamin. You can discuss with your doc about potential causes.

Not Really: We don't know what you mean by sensation of stools in the intestines but VitaminD will not have any effect on stools in intestine
If you are taking high doses of vitamin D,You should get your 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D level checked by your doctor

Vitamin C OK: There are no known interactions between vit. C and cymzia. Vitamin c is unlikely to irritate your intestines unless you take a very high amount. It is safe to take 1000 mg at a time a few times a day. Some people sensitive to the Ascorbic Acid form will do better with buffered vit. C. : It depends on which vitamin or mineral you are talking about. They are all have different mechanisms of absorption. On the whole, however, the entire small intestine is more likely to absorb vitamins and minerals than just the ileocecal valve. Good luck.

Why not absorbed?: Surgery won't help vitamins get better absorbed by the small intestine. The issue may be whether someone not absorbing vitamins could have an underlying malabsorption disorder like celiac sprue or crohn' s disease.  Please discuss this with your doctor.

Healthy Diet: A diet that is high in fiber, fruits, whole grains, and vegetables can help keep your colon healthy.  It is very important to have a colonoscopy when you reach age 50 to screen for colon cancer (which is very treatable if caught early) or younger if there is a history of colon cancer or colon polyps in your family.  Avoid habitual laxative use, and get regular exercise.  Your body will thank you!
