A member asked:

Could someone please list all the vitamins that may get depleted in the body by bacterial overgrowth in small intestines?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

SBO: The major issue is with B-12 which is absorbed in the last part of the small bowel, and patients may then develop a megaloblastic anemia with large red blood cells. In older adults, small bowel bacterial overgrowth is associated with a higher frequency of diarrhea, a lower body mass index, and a significantly lower serum albumin concentration. Not aware of other vitamins lost thru this.
