Your doctor will: Diagnose it properly. Then if need be, he will refer you to a surgeon to remove it. Lipomas are benign fatty growths, so they do not necessarily have to be removed.

First your own MD: If you have multiple soft tissue  masses under the skin , most likely they are neurofibromas , some one in your family may  also have them , get one biopsied , if they are lipomas gen surgeon , or plastic surgeon will take care of the problem , also possible to remove them  by lipo-sucction in order to minimize the scar.

No: A lipoma is composed of fatty tissue and is a common soft tissue benign tumor. Lipomas are generally found underneath the skin in the fatty layer, are soft to the touch, usually movable, and are generally painless.  They can be removed surgically as an outpatient, many times under a local anesthetic (depending on location).  You may read of new procedures, their long term success are unproved.

Please provide me the location, the size, is it fixed to deep tissues or is mobile, does it generate pain to touch,  does it displace with palpation. Does it bother you.
You need an ultrasound, assess the base, a surgeon should counsel you, personally I would recommend removal of the lipoma, therefore you should see a surgeon.

LIPOMA treatment: Lipomas are benign 'fatty tumors' that are very common. They need no treatment unless enlarging rapidily or painful. Your doctor may decide to remove it or refer you to another doctor (surgeon or dermatologist) .  If very painful, other diagnoses are possible: an abcess (boil) or infected sebaceous cyst. have had a lump in my upper/outer butt area that doctor says is a lipoma.sometimes its very easy to feel and on the surface but other times i have a hard time finding it or cant feel it at all.is this typical for a lipoma?been same size for 3 years

Fatty tumor: Lipomas are benign fatty tumors.  They are not usually firm and fixed.  I would go see a general surgeon and have the mass evaluated with an ultrasound.  The only way to know what it is would be to biopsy it or have it removed.

Depends on size: Many lipomas are easy to remove and could be done by a dermatologist, plastic surgeon, general surgeon, family practioner or other doctor who regularly does this kind of surgery. However, sometimes they can be wrapped around tendons, nerves or other important structures. I think this would be more likely in areas like the forearm or wrist.
