Make it worse : Avoid foods that make your symptoms worse. This is by trial and error. Common gerd inducing foods and drinks include fatty foods, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, and citrus. Stress and exercise can also worsen symptoms. If its too bad, consider a consultation with a surgeon experienced in anti reflux procedures.

with gerd, should you avoid leaning back in a recliner after you eat?

Head above stomach : In most cases keeping the head higher than the stomach will assist in reflux. Reclining is fine, in fact, I recommend my patients use a pillow wedge at night to prevent overnight positional reflux with supine position, or lift the back legs of the bed with a brick to provide gentle slope. The question of how much to recline is 30 to 45  degrees.  Hope that helps

Gerd: things that should be avoided are: coffee, soft drinks, spicy food, greasy food, tomatoes, smoking, but honey should not cause any problem

Lot's of people...: ...have hiatal hernias, whether detected by x-ray or endoscopy. Most are sliding type &amp; appear intermittently, requiring no intervention especially when small. Pls call your doctor &amp; ask him/her your question to get a most accurate response re: hernia size as well its reducibility. Some hiatal hernias, like large paraesophageal ones, carry potentially great concern, but yours is symptom-free.

Gastroenterologist: A gastroenterologist is best qualified to evaluate and treat you. Appropriate tests will be ordered in order to make a diagnosis. Possibilities include lactose or gluten intolerance as well as a hiatus hernia with reflux.In the meantime keep note of what foods trigger symptoms, don't go to bed with food in your stomach, sleep with your chest elevated higher than your abdomen, take prilosec,mylanta

Stool color varies:   The color comes from bile which is yellow/green and then is converted by bacteria to shades of brown, unless transit time is very fast.    If stools are white or light tan, it may indicate a blockage of bile or a liver condition and needs evaluation.   Bile helps to digest fats, so without a gall bladder, fats may not digest well, which can have a laxative effect and not allow color conversion.

i was diagnosed with mild asthma. i am on advair. after i eat, i have trouble breathing. can this be related to gerd? no heartburn or indigestion.

Only after eating: If the asthma worsens after eating anything , i think gerd should be considered.

You may be: Stress and anxiety can certainly cause other physical ailments such as increasing acid production, leading to possible GERD or ulcers.  The acid issue can be treated by avoiding trigger foods that also affect you, and medications.  Controlling anxiety however is the main issue causing your problems, so treating that is paramount.  See the Dr. for a good exam, evaluation, and treatment.

GERD: is a "finding" by studies (X RAY.....GASTROSCOPY) and may be completely ASYMPTOMATIC!

Thus your pain is NOT explained by GERD but the normal studies should be encouraging!

Report your remaining symptoms to your treating Provider for more ?additional treatment!
