Suicide? GET HELP!: I'm sorry you're feeling so discouraged -- it sounds like you've had a lot to deal with.  It doesn't appear from the info you've supplied that you've had any treatment for depression, and you don't list this as a medical problem.  Yet, it's very possible that this treatable condition could be driving your decision to end your life.  Tell your parents and/or your doctors about this, & get help now!

if one has had chronic insomnia during the duration of being on celexa (about a month), is it a possibility that lexapro would not cause insomnia?

: It is possible that you will not develop insomnia with escitalopram. But of course discuss more with your prescribing doctor. Despite being similar, they are chemically different drugs.

i have successfully treated narcolepsy (take provigil, xyrem). about a year ago, i suddenly developed severe chronic insomnia. what could cause this?

Have you had a : Comprehensive sleep medicine evaluation with polysomnogram since this change in sleep?  If  not, doing so may provide the information you seek. Take care.

i was on ambien for chronic insomnia for five years. loved it. stopped working. is there any med that is just as  good? a hypnotic
preferably? lunesta (eszopiclone) doesn't work for me nor trazodone any longer. wondering about seroquel. thank you.

That's a common...: ...problem with meds for insomnia. You can become dependent on them or need higher doses for the same effect.  I don't recommend Seroquel (quetiapine) for insomnia UNLESS  it's caused by bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness.) Try OTC melatonin 1-2 tabs 1 hour B4 bed.  Ask Dr. re: tricyclic (e.g. Elavil).  Get more info from:  &gt;may clinic.org-&gt;diseases &amp; conditions-&gt;I-&gt;insomnia.

been diagnosed with bronchitis, chronic asthma . no coughing, back pain very little nausea shakes and insomnia short of breath not sure about fever but every now and then my face feels very hot. should i go get tested for covid-19?

Temperature/follow: Please monitor your temperature, drink fluids and rest. Your shortness of breath may respond to your inhaled Albuterol. Since you have underlying bronchitis and asthma, you are at risk for complications from COVID-19. Please discuss testing with your PCP. Most cases are associated with fever and flu like symptoms are common.

Insomnia: Sleep disorder in which there is inability to fall asleep ;/or stay asleep, followed by daytime functional impairment.  It accompanies several sleep, medical, or psychiatric disorders. It can occur at any age, but more common in elderly. It can be short-term (up to 3 weeks) or long-term. It can lead to memory impairment, mood changes, ; increase risk of heart disease ; accidents.

Many reasons: Many reasons:  need to define the cause if you can, then treat the problem.  For ideopathic insomnia or shift work, you may need a hypnotic medicine.  Otherwise, insomnia can be from anxiety/depression, urinary issues and bph, arrhythmias, hormonal, restless legs, sleep apnea, etc - need to treat each thing differently.  Can try a simple improvement of sleep hygiene, avoid stimulants & cut stress.

Depends on cause: As always what can be done about a symptom or condition depends on proper diagnosis of the cause - on/off insomnia can be related to medication, alcohol, stress, medical conditions, or psychiatric disorders.  Starting wiht a physician and then following up for psychological or psychiatric consults may help determine the cause of this patter and ultimately what is the best to do about it.

Sleep Hygiene is Key: Keep reg. bed &amp; wake time. Make routine: warm bath /shower, aromatherapy, read, or light music. Sleep in dark, quiet, cool room w comfy mattress/pillows &amp; no work materials or computer. Bedroom only for sleep &amp; sex. No food 2-3 hrs, caffeine w/i 6 hrs, alcohol or smoking w/i 2 hrs of bed. Exercise at least few hrs before bed. No naps. Retire only if tired. Deal wi problems at another time.
