i have small red painful bumps on my scalp along with dry scalp.  would it be bad if i picked it open? how do i home treat?

Foolish?: I am not sure what your red bumps are but if you pick these they could be come infected and could develop a cellulitis. I would see your doc and have him /her review what is ongoing. If the doc can treat it fine otherwise see a derm doc and have them tell you what it is and how treated appropriately.

Cradle cap: may be caused by seborrheic dermatitis or infantile eczema and gets better with age.  Wash the scalp every few days with a mild shampoo and massage scalp with fingertips.   Sometimes applying 1% hydrocortisone cream thinnly for a few days is helpful. after a shower, my forehead gets so dry and flaky and it does get redness too. i have the same thing on my scalp like bumps of dead skin. any help?

Could be psoriasis: eczema, or dandruff, need to see a dermatologist for absolute diagnosis and treatment

Seborrhea: This sounds like what is called seborrheic dermatitis or seborrhea.  First try to use a water based moisturizer such as Cetaphyl.  If this doesn't work try over the counter cortisone, twice a day for 2-3 days at a time.  If you still are having trouble, then go see your dermatologist.  Unfortunately, seborrhea is a chronic condition.  There is no cure for it.  So treat it only when it's active.

The signs and symptoms of ringworm of the scalp may vary, but it usually appears as itchy, scaly, bald patches on the head. This is a highly contagious infection, most common in toddlers and school-age children. See your Dr for oral medication and shampoo that can treat this problem over 4 weeks. Griseofulvin.

Get checked: Sounds like area has gotten infected. Let your provider know about the problem. This will probably need to be seen and incised and drained.
