Check it out: Most likely seborrheic dermatitis, but scaling patches on face after 40 should get checked out by your pcp.

Seborrhea: Sounds like seborrhea. Nizoral (ketoconazole) or Hydrocortisone - both by prescription might help. Have someone take a a look at it.
