i have flagged low iron saturation=8 %. ref. range 15- 50 %.   i didn't fast.  therefore, should my number be even lower ?  thanks !

No: Fasting will not make a material different to blood iron levels. You should start taking oral iron supplement and multivitamins to replenish your stores of iron.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

if i have low creatine (kidney level) 1.15 doctor said it low is it safe for me to take magnesium citrate? also can i take an iron supplement with low kidney level? i got a semi low number for mch. thank you! :?

Accepted Answer

: Low creatinine numbers do not mean reduced kidney function. As kidneys begin to deteriorate, the creatinine actually goes up. If your GFR is over 60, you can take magnesium safely. Iron supplementation can be pursued if there is clear evidence of iron deficiency. An isolated abnormal mch is not a diagnosis of iron deficiency. Please speak with your doctor to discuss next steps based on your labs.

Are you deficient?: It warns of possible iron deficiency even before you become anemic. Your physician knows what to do to evaluate possible causes. If you are a non-meat-eater or have heavy monthly loss, you may have a supplement recommended for you, or a search for a source of bleeding may be in order.

i had min. invasive back surg. 3.5 mos. ago. my tibc is hi and iron sat low.  could i still be iron deficient from the surgey?

Not really.: Blood loss from such a procedure should have been minimal and long since corrected.  Why are you measuring such numbers? Do you have anemia?  There are a lot of other reasons for these numbers to be "off."

prevacid (lansoprazole) cause low iron& make iron stores low. was fine till took prevacid (lansoprazole)  7 days, then iron bottom out & iron sat low as well. all was fine before.

Prevacid (lansoprazole): Prevacid (lansoprazole) may cause mineral malabsorption, but this would not occur in only 7 days. Your body has iron stores to make up for any decrease over this time. I suspect your iron was low beforehand and you may not have been made fully aware of that.

Big picture: High iron / iron sat is meaningless as a measure of storage iron if you're taking ferrous gluconate. Why were you on it in the first place?  If it's to correct heavy monthly iron loss, ask your physician whether to continue it prophylactically so you don't get a recurrence.

Unhealthy: You cannot expect us to give you any valid interpretation of labs when you only provide a few results. Your labs that you have shared represent that you are not a very healthy human.  Your medical care and the interpretation of your labs should be urgently handled in person by the professional caring for you. The one that knows all of the details and your health history.

Can be Iron def: Hemochromatosis results in increased iron absorption from diet. But it will not stop iron deficiency if you are losing iron/blood such as menstruation or pregnancy. Low ferritin says iron stores are low. High transferrin sat says you absorb excess iron from what you eat. Women with homozygous HC get organ damage about a decade later than men for this reason. If you are anemic take (!) iron briefly

It is more like IDA: It would be helpful to know about your Red blood cell indices, particularly the MCV. Given the low iron and high IBC, it is compatible with Iron deficiency Anemia.
Go seek advice for treatment from a good internist or a hematologist.

Follow it: Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either side. Your serum ferritin is low-ish. Labs mean nothing apart from history and physical exam; if you're anemic, consider mixed iron deficiency and chronic inflammation if it fits and seek others causes (retic count). Check stool and urine to be sure you're not losing blood; discuss your diet &amp; monthly loss.
