my cbc is normal, but i had 10.6 calcium and 8.6 protein and albumin was high.  i'm so scared because i googled it and it seems all says mm. help?

Relax: This just is not myeloma. Just not. Myeloma suppresses albumin and raises globulin. You were dehydrated. This is common. And lab reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthy folks are high. Relax and be thankful for good health.

will low protein indicated by cbc cause swelling?

Accepted Answer

Yes and ?: Low serum Albumin is associated with swelling. That said, protein values are not noted on a complete blood count.  Did you have other routine blood work done?

can i get blood test if i have cold?, it's celiac screening, cbc, c - reactive protein,ferritin.  i feel like i'm coming down but not sure shud i wait

You could wait: It sounds like that work up is for a chronic condition so if you can wait go ahead and wait. There is a chance the CRP and ferritin would be altered during illness.

hema repeated bloodwork after monoclonal iga lambda found. in one month, m-protein went from 8.5 g/l to 11.4. is this jump significant? other values remain out of range with iga high & igg, igm low. low gamma as well. cbc values ok and no bencejones?

: What you described is not diagnostic of multiple myeloma, though you should follow your doctor's advice on repeat tests to monitor the progress of the monoclonal IgA and other parameters.

my total protein was high. dr ordered cbc, cmp, spep. all normal (and protein had come down), except for slightly elevated kappa chain of 21.5. ratio normal. no m spike. he wants me to repeat all labs and it is is making me extremely anxious?

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, kappa and lambda light chain results have a large number of false positives and you may ignore it.

Wait and see.: Not sure i understand the predicament.  Sounds like you have had a screening antibody test for hcv which was positive and are awaiting results of a confirmatory test, the hcv pcr.  Your liver seems completely normal by lab work.  There is nothing to be done until results of confirmatory testing are available.

in a 72 year old women with normal cbc, cmp and c reactive protein, would an esr of 54 be alarming? the test was run to rule out autoimmune causes of hearing loss. im worried about cancer. does this sound like cancer? thanks?

: ESR is a test usually signaling non specific inflammation when elevated. Your ordering doc will be best to place your value in the context of hearing loss, actual physical exam and detailed history.

im 60 yr male had ua at pcp with findings of ketones + protein ++ urobilinogen ++. went to hospital for immediate retest with results all negative. had blood labs 2 days after cbc & cmp results were perfect no abnormals. are any follow ups required?

Normal results: Both your CRP results were normal &amp; slight change within normal limits is also normal as is your ESR. There does not need to be cause because both test are normal. Nowadays, we tend to orer just CRP without ESR as it is probably more accurate measure of inflammation, easier to perform &amp; both usually move in tandem.
