Focus/concentration.: This is often a problem with focus and concentration, which could be a sign of attention deficit disorder, which is treatable with the help of a psychiatrist. If  you had difficulty reading in school, then dyslexia may have been an issue.

where can i take a test for a learning disability? i'm 28 and having difficulty with graduate courses. i can't remember what i read.

Accepted Answer

Too late: If you had a primary learning disability, it should have been identified and managed early in your school years.  If you have already gotten into graduate school, it is too late for simple help.  Many psychologist can give you academic achievement tests to confirm your problem.  Hopefully, this is not a progressive cognitive disorder.  A thorough medical and neurological evaluation should be done.

A lot : A learning disability implys that a person has a specific disability in acquiring the skills in a specific area consistent with their average overall performance. Reading & math are examples. Although this may lead to some stress, it is not a mental health issue. Mh issues imply that a person has difficulty with issues such as depression or psychosis. They have skills to  be fine in learning.

Have testing done: Educational psychologists have a variety of tests that screen for learning styles/disabilities as well as mental issues. Poor mental health can often impair ones ability to learn. It would be reasonable to seek clarification after you have a basic physical exam & tests to be sure no health issue is aggravating your problems.

Yes. : If you can pass a cdl-a test, you can drive commercially. Many people with LD are successful in hands-on professions. Find your area of ability and follow that in your career pursuits.  Learning disability is a school thing, if you have confidence in yourself, and work hard, you will succeed.

Not necessarily: If a premature infant has few or no complications of any significance they will grow up with all the brain power they were born with.If one has difficulty during their stay, including prolonged ventilator care, brain hemorrhage, blood poisoning, etc. These issues may injure the brain and cause problems later in life.

No: Vaccine haters in the 80's told us they caused cp, in the 90's crib death & now wakefield & his cronies have killed hundreds with their money making hoax about vaccines.Now that specialized tests are revealing a genetic origin to much of autism the vaccine haters will move on to other things.Learning disabilities have heritable & acquired origins & there is no evidence that vaccines ever caused  1.

Witnessing a death : can cause PTSD, even in early childhood. It should be treated by a psychiatrist who prescribes medications &amp; a psychologist who provides therapy, as people with  PTSD can have problems with memory, concentration/attention &amp; cognitive skills, as well as anxiety &amp; depression that also impact learning. A neuropsychological exam will define your neurocognitive areas of deficit.See your MD for referral

Doctor can evaluate: There are many reasons a person may feel he does not remember the things he hears in the classroom. Such a person can write down his symptoms, to tell his primary care doctor (or his pediatrician if that doctor will still see him as a college student), but start by describing any symptoms in middle school, and in high school. Also, any and all mental health issues and stressors become important.
