Possibly: Blockage of bile entering the intestinal tract typically causes light or clay colored stools due to loss of bile pigment. With severe blockage the skin turns yellow and urine becomes dark or brownish.

Possibility....: Bile should not be located in your respiratory tract so you should not be coughing up bile. Bile is green but if you are coughing up green secretions, it is usually a sign of infection from acute bronchitis, pneumonia, sinus infection with post-nasal drip, etc. See your doctor so your problem can be diagnosed and treated.

Probably so: Severe repetitive vomiting typically brings up bile-green-colored vomitus.  Seek a medical attention if infant continues to vomit, specially projectile or bilious nature.

Common bile duct: Bile is made in the liver and is a by-product of liver metabolism (generally broken down red blood cells cleared from the blood stream). The bile collects in the biliary system of the liver and flows to the larger bile ducts - one for the left and right lobes of the liver. These join as the common bile duct which exits the liver. The duct joins the pancreatic duct and flows into the duodenum.

Acid: Sugar is very acidic and can upset your stomach if eaten in large amounts.  Reflux- some foods lower the pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter.  This causes acid to go up through the esophagus and cause discomfort and mass sensation in throat.  Chocolates and peppermints are notorious for this.

: Without actually seeing what you’re talking about, it is difficult to know for sure. It does not sound like anything that raises alarm bells, however. If your store is bloody or solid black, see your doctor immediately. Otherwise, eat a lot of fiber and drink plenty of fluids for optimal bowel health. Good luck.

: For peace of mind have your PCP do a simple stool test for occult blood on a stool specimen in the office. . If negative, you can ignore those black specs on toilet paper.

my 6 months old baby changed rom nan optipro 1 to  2 and he started solids. butternut, sweet potatoes carrots and rice cereal. hes been constipated and didt poo for about 4 days thereafter, his stool is small and semi hard.  should i give him meds?

Fluids: A small amount of prune juice, 1-2 ounces twice daily may relieve the symptom. Keep the baby well hydrated with formula and provide the solid feedings three times daily. Please follow up with your PCP, watch for any blood or mucus in the stool.
