Acid: Sugar is very acidic and can upset your stomach if eaten in large amounts. Reflux- some foods lower the pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter. This causes acid to go up through the esophagus and cause discomfort and mass sensation in throat. Chocolates and peppermints are notorious for this.
