Try 2nd opinion: I would truly seek a second opinion and consider physical therapy.  I would consider seeing an orthopedic or sports medicine MD or DO for their insight. Physical therapy, including soft tissue work &amp; massage, as well as use of modalities (heat, ice) &amp; strengthening/rehab is often very helpful. Consider this approach vs just further adjustments.

The : The concern here is shortness of breath. This should be checked to avoid complications. It could be something very simple but it could get complicated quickly. Have it checked out. Btw there is no such thing as a dislocated rib.

Unusual: Unless a rib has punctured a lung, surgery is rarely indicated. If the lung is not injured, I have a difficult time understanding the need for surgery. If your leg was punctured a day - overbite , i the hospital should be adequate w/o complications.

Pain: The usual symptoms are pain, principally on breathing, and shortness of breath. Confirmation is by chest x-ray.

Maybe: Chest pain can herald many problems but dislocated ribs do not arise out of nowhere they are traumatic injuries. Sudden sharp chest pain on one half of chest can be a collapsed lung - especially if associated with significant shortness of breath. Similar pain can also be from an infection in the pleural space (next to the lung). Dull pain in middle of the chest can be from heart or esophagus.
