Visual inflammation: Your GI should have done biopsies from our stomach lining to recheck presence of  H. Pylori. If you have already been treated with appropriate antibiotics then need to continue proton pump inhibitor treatment for 2-3 more months.

does sucralfate only works on ulcer site or the entire stomach lining which is inflamed/damaged during gastritis? will it also prevent new ulcer?

Ulcer site: Sucralfate is used to treat and prevent duodenal ulcers. Sucralfate works by forming a 
coating over the ulcer. This protects the ulcer from the acid of the stomach, allowing it to heal.

can i have coffee on empty stomach and then eat my 1st meal after 6 hours will it damage my stomach lining and can create issues like reflux and indigestion?

Accepted Answer

: The caffeine in coffee does relax the muscle group that tightens the swallow tube as it enters the stomach. If you lay down after, reflux might be an issue. If you are upright afterwards for hours it has little effect as gravity keep stomach contents down. I see little evidence it would damage the stomach unless you are unusually sensitive to coffee.

usually, stomach lining is protected by mucus . but can certain acidic foods or sitting for long cause excess acid in such a way that it damages the lining in spite of mucus and cause burning? i am talking of stomach burn and not heartburn/reflux.

Unusual: Some people are prone to ulcers because of the way their stomach oversecretes, and possibly abnormalities histologically, but acidic foods should not cause peptic ulcer formation

is it ok to drink something acidic like orange juice after a meal if u have a stomach ulcer ? would the food act as a barrier ie protect the lining

OK IF YOU ARE TREATE: Even though orange juice is very acidic and is adviced not to be consumed if you have peptic ulcer, but if you are being treated with antibiotics for h pylori which causes the ulcer and you have finished the two weeks course and are taking proton pump inhibiters to suppress the acid production in your stomach, you may be able to tolerate orange juice or you can get low acidity orange juice.

No: Hydrocodone has tylenol (acetaminophen) this does not affect stomach lining but it is harmful to liver if you have liver issues.

Depends: Yes. But a free perforation may make one very sick before it has time to heal. An ulcer can heal itself but usually acid suppression is needed along with treatment of hpylori if present an avoidance of nsaids.

Accepted Answer

Usually not.: A perforation of the stomach is usually a surgical emergency. If not repaired quickly, patients can often get extremely sick from peritonitis. It is usually not safe to observe someone without surgery in that setting. Hope that helps.

had a ugi and have stomach lining problems. getting treated. what are the chances of me getting another ugi to find out if the meds have worked?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: But have to give meds/treatment adequate time before repeat study (say 6-12 months). May be done sooner if condition not improving or worsens. Insurance provider may also place limits on when/if repeat study is done. Discuss with treating doc. May prefer recheck with endoscopy.
