A member asked:

Usually, stomach lining is protected by mucus . but can certain acidic foods or sitting for long cause excess acid in such a way that it damages the lining in spite of mucus and cause burning? i am talking of stomach burn and not heartburn/reflux.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unusual: Some people are prone to ulcers because of the way their stomach oversecretes, and possibly abnormalities histologically, but acidic foods should not cause peptic ulcer formation
