Depends: A thick endometrium can be normal if it is part of a normal ovulation cycle. However if your periods are not normal, it may be abnormal. If concerned, a doctor can do a simple biopsy. Sometimes it can be treated with medication, or possibly with outpatient surgery if needed.

Think endometrium : This is thicker than normal for a postmenopausal woman, so it means that you will need evaluation of your endometrium in the form of endometrial biopsy or d&amp;c. The results are often benign, but a biopsy will be done to rule out endometrial cancer or endometrial hyperplasia.

Endometrium 22mm: At 24 it is unusual for your endometrial lining to be "22 mm by ultrasound".  If your menstrual cycles are irregular, you may not have ovulated, so the constant estrogen stimulation of your endometrium would have made it thicker.  Ask your gyn provider about an endometrial biopsy and oral bcps (if no contraindication) to control estrogen production in non-ovulatory cycles.

Need a biopsy: Although a thickened endometrial lining can be one of the findings in uterine cancer, this finding alone does not confer a diagnosis of cancer.  Typically, a post-menopausal woman will present with vaginal bleeding to her ob/gyn.  Her doctor will then perform an endometrial biopsy to confirm or negate a diagnosis of cancer.

There are a couple: of ways to measure the thickness of the endometrial lining..by ultrasound or by endometrial biopsy. Most agree that a thickness of 1 cm or 10 mm is classified as "thickened." Especially in older women, a thickened endometrium may suggest cancer, but most often non-cancerous causes explain it: normal hormonal changes, obesity, diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome. Your Doctor will advise.

Ultrasound jargon: It is ultrasound MD jargon for the examiners  inability to distinguish between a endometrial lining that has a polyp in it or a uterine musculature that looks like Swiss cheese (Adenomyosis) due to invagination of the endometrium into the muscle of the uterus.

Maybe not: If, at age 61 you have a innate or exogenous (outside0  source off unopposed estrogen, then the endometrium may grow again. If you are taking HRT (hormone replacement therapy) make sure that progesterone is added to the regimen to avoid estrogen only endometrium stimulation.

Aspiration device: If your MD used a aspiration endometrial biopsy device then a small sampling was all that was needed to give a benign "diagnosis." The "olden days" in office scraping is usually no longer done unless it was a D &amp; C in a surgical environment.

Endometrium: The uterine lining may keep growing in response to estrogen. It can occur in PCOS, obesity, taking medications that increase estrogen levels. It is good that you are getting evaluated for it.

i have been bleeding for 1 month at times it is heavy. i was diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia with 1.3cm thick uterine lining. how thick is 1.3?

Pretty thick: Around ovulation, we expect the endometrium to be about 8-10 mm (0.8-1.0 cm) thick at the most. 1.3 is pretty thick, and if the biopsy shows hyperplasia, it should be treated with progestin therapy.
