: Every doctor is different but most doctors see patients for the first time between 8 and 10 weeks.  If you have had prior complications in early pregnancy, call to schedule an appointment earlier.

Lots of questions: Regardless of his or her speciality, the doctor will want to know much of the following at your first visit: reason you are there, details of your symptoms, your past health history, current and past medications, allergies to medications, habits (eating, smoking, drinking, exercise, etc.), family history, and previous hospitalization and surgeries, etc.

First tooth: Generally as soon as the first tooth is in, we recommend an exam or "happy visit".  By the age of 3 most kids have all their primary teeth and  should have already seen either a general or pediatric dentist.

Accepted Answer

Normal ?: Absolutely not. Some offices offer a complementary consultation as an incentive to attract new patients, but it is neither normal or customary. You make an appointment, you are diagnosed, you are advised. The office has every right to get reimbursed for the time spent with you.

I like: to make my first visit with a Patient a COMPLETE evaluation including complete History and a "targeted" Physical Exam ("Hands On") HOWEVER the more "modernist" Physicians rather make the first visit an "introduction" and more SOCIAL (often with NO CHARGE)...You pretty much have to decide which kind of experience you want and make it clear BEFORE an appointment is scheduled

It's about trust: The first visit to a doctor is the meeting of two strangers, so the establishment of trust is most important. Ideally, you would want to feel comfortable sharing everything with your doctor. Only you can decide if the doctor has earned your trust enough to do that. It's helpful to let the doctor know there are things that are difficult to talk about and see how he or she reacts.

: Physical exam, in general, should be pretty much same unless she expresses specific concern.  She can also request a chaperon present while being examined.

PCR: If you have reason to think you may have been infected, and you want to be certain, the polymerase chain reaction though pricey will give you your answer with a month gone by, you're a man now; i'm glad you experienced love even if it was less than perfect, and that you'll always love wisely and safely.
