i had a ct scan done for pain in my right side. the doctor couldn't find a cause, but noted that i have scarring on my uterus. is that even possible to see on a ct? if not, what could he have possibly mistaken it for?

: Yes, some uterine structural abnormalities can be seen when CT of the scan and pelvis is done. Take care.

my doctor said my ct scan with contrast showed that my ovaries, tubes and uterus looked great. he said this is not cause for not getting pregthoughts?

Test: Ct usually isn't a part of an infertility evaluation and normal pelvic findings on a ct doesn't mean there isn't an ovarian tubal or uterine issue with trying to achieve pregnancy.  Hsg is a better radiologic test for assessing the uterus and fallopian tubes for infertility purposes.  Ovulation eval requires lab rather than imaging although follicle development can be followed with ultrasound.

ct scan showed "uterus has a lobular appearance with mass effect on rectum" no heavy bleeding so prob no fibroids. what could cause this ? i am 48

Test results: Individual test results must be interpreted by the treating physician who has all of the information. This reports simply indicates that the uterus is a little large and may be compressing the rectum. Without knowing more information we would not be able to comment on whether or not this is normal or a cause for concern

i had a ct scan done recently. it said there is nonspecific mild heterogeneous enhancement of the uterus. what does this mean in laymans terms? i am concerned on what it could mean.

Uterus: The Uterus consists of the endometrium , the myometrium and the serosa or the inner lining which is what sloughs off each month to form your period, the muscle layer which is biggest part and the outer lining. The myometrium or muscle layer is usually one consistency and is then homogenous on ultrasound. A condition called adenomyosis is where two layers mix and are hetrogenous on US

what does it feel like & what needs to be done if your iud shows still in your uterus but side ways showing on ct scan that way.  ?

Harder to remove: IUDs do odd things at times.  Even if they are put in correctly, they can turn side-ways.  If the IUD is still in the uterus, you are protected from pregnancy.  However, a side-ways IUD can become imbedded in the uterine wall and make it harder to remmove.  Best wishes!

does a ct scan show infection in uterus?

Accepted Answer

It could.: Inflammatory changes would show up on a ct scan of an infected uterus, but usually laboratory studies, and the clinical exam would give an idea of this as well. Women with suspected uterine infections (when not pregnant) are usually treated for this with antibiotics. The ct scan may be looking for other sources of infection like appendicitis, or intestinal infections.

is it possible for a ct scan to confirm fibroids in uterus?

Yes: Yes but an MRI scan of the pelvis is a  better way to image the uterus.

Ultrasound may help: Ct is not great at imaging the female pelvis.  We often see abnormalities that are not clearly characterized.  A followup transvaginal ultrasound would help to further characterize the abnormality.

a ct scan showed "mildly heterogeneous uterine enhancement." my obgyn said this only meant i have a "gray" uterus, is that accurate?

"Gray" uterus?: I did not know that an "aging" uterus would have a  "gray" designation. Heterogeneous uterine enhancement is usually noted in patients who have a condition called adenomyosis where there is glandular development interdigitating like fingers into the smooth muscle fibers of the uterus.  You need to ask your OBGYN if that is indeed the case or not.

extremely nervous: ct scan says i have a slightly heterogenous uterus, non specific. i am going through ivf and ttc. hysteroscopy was normal. worry???

Infertility ?'s: Given your age (23) and that you are involved with an IVF program, the CT scan showing a "heterogenous" uterine pattern, may be consistent with adenomyosis, an endometrial invasion of uterine smooth muscle, a form of endometriosis.  Adenomyosis, if present, may complicate your efforts for pregnancy, so IVF may be a good choice in this instance.
