Not a fixed number!: Bone marrow cellularity tends to be very variable in different people and there is room for sampling error as the marrow is not a uniform sheet of cell; instead it is normally quite patchy. if your blood counts(CBC) are normal, then the cause of your weight loss is not related to your Bone marrow cellularity. Look for other causes...elsewhere in the body.

No: Medullary sponge kidney is a very benign condition that does not disturb the function of the kidneys. It is mainly a radiological abnormality and can be associated with kidney stones of small variety usually in the kidney it self visible as small calcifications.
It should not affect your bone marrow in any way.

Several choices: The skin over the testing area is injected with numbing medicine after it is cleaned and sanitized. The infant is usually provided with a form of conscious sedation to decrease their reaction to the event. A thick short needle with an angled bevel is inserted in either the tibia below the knee or the pelvis until the doc feels it enter the bone.The bone marrow is withdrawn into a syringe.

If a blood work, called Complete Blood Cell Count, is done during the illness it can be a surprise when it shows a possible viral illness in an otherwise healthy child.

Often unknown cause: We may not be able to pin point the cause. But you need to show him to a blood specialist(Hematologist) who will be able to establish an exact diagnosis. On that basis we can estimate the prognosis and the expected course of his blood disorder/disease

: I have never heard that before.  I think you should see a doctor. The back spasm can be the result of several things, not just spinal pain.

Many conditions: Pancytopenia, or decrease in rbc, wbc, and platelets can be genetic, like Fanconi anemia or Dyskeratosis congenital, that include other abnormalities.  Acquired pancytopenia, besides low B12 and Folate, (folic acid) can be caused by a toxin, drugs, radiation, a viral infection, malnutrition and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). If a cause is not found, it is said to be idiopathic.  I hope it resolves.

Abnormal blood tests: The splenic enlargement, low plateletes combined with fatique and night sweats are significant, and even with a negative PET scan and bone marrow bx may indicate serious illness.  A hematologist in a university medical center should be consulted, and perhaps an infectious disease specialist as well as soon as possible.
