was taking wellbutrin and lexapro together.. unhappy with lexapro weight gain so tapered off now just on wellbutrin. will my body act as if i just started wellbutrin due to the absence of lexapro?

: I think if welbutrin has been on board long enough it'll  remain therapeutic for you. I'd be somewhat relieved that you're no longer taking lexapro as well because of potentially severe interactions.  However it's always best to follow the instructions and advice of your treating physician who knows your past and present mental status the best.

: There is major interaction between wellbutrin and lexapro. I am not sure why you have these 2 drugs to treat the same condition prescribed by 2 doctors. If one of the two is a psychiatrist, please double check with this doctor.

Low probability: There are the possibility of low probability side effects.  With respect to specific interactions, the most prominent thing to remember is that if you stop taking your xanax (alprazolam) suddenly while taking wellbutrin and Lexapro you may make it more likely that you would have a seizure.  You also may find operating a motor vehicle more challenging when taking xanax (alprazolam) with any medications.

I would not prescrib: I would not  prescribe the combo, since I am straining trying to think why three antidepressants would be necessary. Risks are serotonin syndrome from Elavil and lexapro, (escitalopram) qtc interval prolongation  with Lexapro (escitalopram) and Elavil which can lead to a fatal arrhythmia and which would require serial ekg monitoring, lowering of the seizure threshold by all three. Please discuss this with your prescribing physician.

Combo: U are on 3 antidepressants and 2 anxiety meds.  Best to review with your prescribing doctor.

Differences: Lexapro is a serotonin specific reuptake inhibitor. Wellbutrin (bupropion) is a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor. While both are antidepressants, ssris tend to be  better for anxiety conditions than wellbutrin (bupropion). Wellbutrin (bupropion) is more effective for comorbid substance use disorders. Wellbutrin (bupropion) is very weight friendly, does not tend to impair sexual function, but has a somewhat higher seizure risk.

Very slow withdrawal: Go to Lexapro (escitalopram) 10 mg q 5 days; then 10 mg every other day for 10days; then stop.

Depends: Each person is biochemically different. One person may have no problem with a drug but another may have a serious side effect. There is a genetic predisposition to having side effects to certain drugs and there are tests available to find out which individuals are more likely to have a side effect to a particular drug.

can i lose weight i've gained from lexapro. by decreasing dose? i've went from 20 to 5 mg and added wellbutrin (bupropion)

Weight changes: Yes, you should be able to lose weight by lowering the dose of Lexapro and adding Wellbutrin (bupropion). You need to watch your diet and exercise though.
