What're the differences between lexapro and wellbutrin (bupropion)?

Differences: Lexapro is a serotonin specific reuptake inhibitor. Wellbutrin (bupropion) is a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor. While both are antidepressants, ssris tend to be better for anxiety conditions than wellbutrin (bupropion). Wellbutrin (bupropion) is more effective for comorbid substance use disorders. Wellbutrin (bupropion) is very weight friendly, does not tend to impair sexual function, but has a somewhat higher seizure risk.

A/W Dr Reynolds: Bupropion works by increasing dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine in the brain. Its primary effect is on dopamine. It is excellent in treating atypical depressive and seasonal affective disorder symptoms. Recommend caffeine use be decreased when taking bupropion. There can be initial side effects of increased anxiety and insomnia. Zoloft is a Selective Serotonin reuptake inhibitor (ssrI) >
