Big picture: My first concerns are whether your gerd is real -- get endoscoped, and it may be the cause of your cough and if so this is dangerous. There are several rnp's that speak either to mixed connective tissue disease or scleroderma; the latter's unlikely with no raynaud's though gerd can mimic the esophageal troubles. Just my thoughts; others will share as well.

The diagnosis and treatment are usually carried out by a rheumatologist.

The titer( ie level) of the result along with the pattern can provide more accuracy but often the lab reports only "+" or "-" which is useless. If the patient has significant symptoms compatible with a connective tissue disease, then the ANA more likely to be  valid.
