Be seen: I would definitely be seen.  If you had surgery and it is now warm and hurts a lot, you would need to make sure you don’t have an infection among other possibilities.

had knee arthroscopy for torn meniscus & was trimmed. 7 weeks from surgery still have pain (1-10) about a 5 when i get up from a sitting position for lets say the first 6 steps & then okay. this pain was a 3 before but started walking more. normal?

: It may be secondary to delayed postoperative healing, but complications may have interrupted recovery.  To be on safe side, contact your orthopedic surgeon, have a followup visit, and get an  opinion.  Physical therapy, incorporating exercise, may stabilize your symptoms and allow you to "turn the corner".

can i go to work with a possible torn meniscus? it's a restaurant so i have to be on my feet. the pain is mild and i can walk pretty well.

No: Meniscal repairs in an osteoarthritic knee provide little or no long term benefit. You will likely need crutches for a short period if you do have the surgery.

Meniscus tear: Obviously a meniscus tear is not a life-threatening condition, so one option is to observe. After 15 months of persistent pain/swelling, things are unlikely to improve, especially if there is locking/ catching of the knee. Other non-operative options include bracing, physical therapy, injections, and activity modification. These may not provide long term benefit, but could be tried before surgery

Less likely: A meniscal tear is usually most painful with weight bearing. See an orthopedist and have the knee evaluated. Then you will have your answer., .
