Meniscus tear: Obviously a meniscus tear is not a life-threatening condition, so one option is to observe. After 15 months of persistent pain/swelling, things are unlikely to improve, especially if there is locking/ catching of the knee. Other non-operative options include bracing, physical therapy, injections, and activity modification. These may not provide long term benefit, but could be tried before surgery
