Numbness: Your symptoms could be due to carpal tunnel syndrome. If you have an occupation with repetitive hand movements or where you sit at a computer and do a lot of typing, it can be associated with this. Generally, people wake up with symptoms worse when they wake up and have to shake their hands to "wake them". Most providers will initially recommend wrist splints. See your doctor for further eval.

i had a carpal tunnel surgery a few years ago. for monthsnow, i have been waking up to both my hands being completely numb. the numbness is in my ring finger, pinkyfinger and palm. what should i do?

Ulnar Nerve Pressure: The hand iscontrolled by 2 nerves, the median and ulnar nerves.  Pressure on the median nerve causes carpal tunnel and you had srugery for that.  The ulnar nerve controls the small and ring fingers and can be compressed at the elbow or the wrist. Capal tunnel surgery will not help with ulnar nerve compression.  I would suggest a repeat visit to your surgeon to discuss.

when i sleep/lay down, my hands go numb. after waking my fingers dont open and close properly but eventually return to normal by mid day. (although there is joint pain)
also, my feet go numb. i have pain in my left foot and ankle.

: It is not feasible to provide exact diagnosis herein, but your arm numbness may well be a pinched nerve at elbow.  Should check neck for potential cervical stenosis.  Your complaints would not likely point to MS, but if concerned, could see a local neurologist.

Other common causes are cubital tunnel syndrome (pinched ulnar nerve at elbow) and cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerve in neck). Peripheral neuropathy from diabetes or medical problems are less common. I would ask your primary care doc to investigate this for you.

It is very important that you see neurologist and have a few tests done, especially emg, electromyography.
