Heel pain: Sounds like you may have bilateral heel spurs or plantar fasciitis.   If the pain is more towards the heel it could be a spur.  If it is more mid foot - the plantar faciitis is more likely.  As we sleep the tissues that create the arch of our feet contract ever slightly - first thing in the morning when we get up - there is a "springing effect that will cause pain.  See your doctor for more advice.

Shoe cushions and..: You possibly have heel spur or plantar fasciitis--inflammation near heel area (see pic). This can be quite painful especially first getting out of bed in the morning. I suggest doing some heel stretching, use motrin/aleve, and arch-support cushions in all of your shoes. If these measures don't help, consult doc--rarely a stress fracture can cause misery as well. Many factors are linked to pf: age, weight gain, overtraining, poor footwear, flat foot, high arch, tight/weak calf muscles, etc. The internet can provide some calf stretching exercises.  Many treatment options exist.
