Liver processing: Alcohol is processed in the liver, and it depends on a particular liver enzyme. If that enzyme is deficient, or your liver is impaired for some reason, alcohol can have a bad effect on you.

They will go away on: their own after 1-2 days in most cases, and will not come back if you STOP drinking.  Drinking to the point where you are getting tremors afterwards means you are physically dependent on alcohol, and are either on the road to, or have arrived at, a full-blown alcohol problem.  Tranquillizers like Librium and valium will stop tremors and prevent seizures, and can be given by a doctor. Get help now.

It could be: Or it could be one of hundreds of other different causes of tremor, including a number of therapeutic medications that having tremor as a side effect, or many movement disorders that can cause shaking hands.  With all you gave me, that's about all I can give you.

Al-Anon: It surely sounds like you could use a program for yourself.  The partner's of alcoholics often suffer just as much but often in silence.  It may be best if you went to an al-anon meeting and met other's like yourself to learn how to have a rich life with less suffering as the partner of an addict.

Etoh: Don't know how much your friend consumes -so it is hard to say.  Is the depression that is noted, yours or your friend's? Alcohol can worsen depression. I do know that if my body had a similar physiologic reaction that i just wouldn't drink.

Need more tests: Neither protein shakes or alcohol will increase liver enzymes so much. Enzymes that are that high usually signify hepatitis, which may be Hepatitis A, B, C or caused by a different virus such as EBV. There are also other possible causes. Please follow-up with the doctor who ordered this test to ask what other tests should be done to determine the cause.
