what is the absolute best blood pressure? i hear 120/80, 115,75, 110,60. which one is it?

Accepted Answer

May not be a BEST: While 120/80 was always the goal, the jury is still out on the best.  Some thought is the lower the better, as long as a person feels ok. Obviously a blood pressure of 70/40 is way too low. I like to keep my patients in the 110/70 range.

Various: This may be do to your equipment, operator error (improper location of stethoscope), reduced hearing, or very low blood pressure.

what exactly does it meen when a nurse says your blood pressure is hard to hear?

Accepted Answer

Some possibilities: It may mean she is hard of hearing. It may mean she has a crappy stethescope. It may mean that you have too many of layers of clothes on. It may mean that the blood pressure cuff is too lose. Or it could mean that  it is just hard to hear the tick, tick, tick of your heart when she is taking your bp.

taking 80mg propanalol, will hear be more bothersome or less bothersome to me? any notable effect with blood pressure of 98/70?

Watch for low BP: Not clear what you are taking Propranolol for, possibly for anxiety or palpitations, but it does lower blood pressure so you should tell your doctor if you have fatigue or dizziness.

what causes blood pressure spikes that last about a minute. during that time, my head seems to have a lot of pressure and i hear swishing?

BP spikes: With the limited information provided, my suggestion is to ask your doctor to evaluate you and to particularly order blood or urinary tests that could detect increased catecholamines in your circulation...there are very rare adrenal gland tumors known as pheochromocytomas that could present that way.  Looking “red as a beet” and having an increased heart rate are common associations.  Good luck!

when i get home from third shift in the morning i hear a slight rushing sound in my head. not other times. big deal? blood pressure related?

See Dr: Might be blood pressure related, or due to a vascular anomaly, or fatigue or hydration status, or some combination of all--some of which could be very bad for your health. See your dr for evaluation.

why do i hear my diastolic pressure all the way down too 0 when my syostolic pressure  is normal? does that mean my blood pressure is 120/0?

No: In young healthy people with strong hearts, especially if they are thin, it is not uncommon to be able to hear the blood flow sounds (korotkoff sounds) all the way down to 0. In those cases, the diastolic blood pressure is determined when the korotkoff sound intensity decreases slightly (becomes muffled).

Not uncommon: Very high pitched, like dog-whistle? Not uncommonly reported in persons w/very high bp--which is the issue (the noise is just annoying). Check and document your BP & time of day taken, take list to your dr and get on or get meds adjusted to control your BP before have brain/heart/kidney/eye problem from the hypertension!

hi i'm 30 year old male. have smoked in the past (only ever 10 a week) drink around 4 times a week

my blood pressure some times is up to 155/90 i have had a irregular hear beat at times (it often skips beats and i get fluttering) so am on atenol was 50mg

Habits: If you change your habits all those problems might improve. Stop drinking heavily and stop smoking and you will see the difference

Depending : If people has no symptoms while his/her blood pressure is low, that might be normal for that specific person. If low blood pressure associates with symptoms, like dizziness, raising heart beat, sweating or tire, etc., then further check up by a physician is needed. It may caused by dehydration, imbalance of electrolytes,  endocrinological disorders, etc.
