Excision vs lipo: Fatty tumor in ankle area is most likely a lipoma. The two most common procedures to improve the appearance of the area are either excision of the tumor or lipo suction. You may want to find a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon to do this. Good luck.

No: Subcutaneous swelling in medial ankle region without palpable mass suggests non specific swelling secondary to localized venous insufficiency leading to the swelling.  Tumor would continue to progress with larger area of swelling..  This type of swelling would benefit fro leg elevation if nonospecific.

if i have a suggestive av malformation tumor on the ankle could it effect my heart?

Accepted Answer

No: Av malformation just means that the arteries connect straight to the veins, bypassing capillaries.  The blood will still flow normally back to the heart, it just may have a little bit of oxygen in it still (since all of it did not go into capillaries and supply to the soft tissues and bones).  Av malformation just causes problems locally, if at all.  Sometimes it's just an incidental finding.

i have a tumor on my ankle by my tendon. the drs are going to sever the artery feeding it. what is the recovery of a severed ankle artery?

It depends,,,: There are no specific studies of the recovery of a particular artery, but given your age and the fact that this artery supplies your tumor and likely not the rest of your ankle, you shouldn't be affected and should make a full recovery.  Best of luck.

Need history &amp;: physical findings to hazard a guess as to whether his localized pain is from tumor, trauma or infection. If he "twisted his ankle" 10 days ago, an X-ray would show disruption of the cortex of the tibia or fibula,  if fractured. Is the pain on the medial or lateral side of his leg? Can he bear weight on that leg? Does he limp? Does the site have swelling, redness, heat or tenderness to touch?

From : From the sounds of your description, the tumor that was removed had some involvement of the spinal cord or the nerves of the cauda equina descending from the cord.  Your description of pain is consistent with a continued neurologic cause of the ongoing pain.  This could be from post operative scar tissue about the nerves of the cauda equina or just residuals from damage caused by the original tumor.
The recommendations of your physical therapist appear correct, however, there can often be additional measures taken to improve your tolerance of the therapy activities.
My recommendation would be to engage the care of a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation to best guide your recovery.  Considerations would be for medications to calm the nerves or consider medications for muscle spasticity if indicated.

Neurapraxia: This question should be directed to your operating surgeon if symptoms emerged immediately postop. It would be helpful to know the pathology of the tumors removed...were they invasive or did they compress or damage  nearby peripheral nerves?Peripheral nerves are fragile and easily damaged by traction, compression and transection. These symptoms sound like  neurapraxia - damaged peripheral nerves.

Potentially: Yes, potentially by raising the pressure in the central nervous system and also by displacing other tissues in the brain as well.  Don't hesitate to be seen and accurately diagnosed and treated.

Tumors of: The extremity can be in the bone or soft tissue.  These are life threats.  W/u for metastasis to lung, then principle is 1. Save life; 2. Save limb; 3. Save function of limb; make it look as best as normal that you can.

Accepted Answer

Depends: Where in the leg? (bone, muscle, cartilage, skin)  what kind?  (sarcoma of bone or soft tissue, squamous or basal cell cancer of the skin, melanoma)  how advanced?  Can't answer without more info.  Good luck nonetheless.
