Excision vs lipo: Fatty tumor in ankle area is most likely a lipoma. The two most common procedures to improve the appearance of the area are either excision of the tumor or lipo suction. You may want to find a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon to do this. Good luck.

Excision: A fatty tumor or lipoma can only be gotten rid of by excision of the lipoma in its entirety, liposuction is not the treatment of choice as it will suck the fat out but leave redundant skin which may need to be excised later, excision is covered by most insurance and liposuction considered cosmetic may not be covered. Excision is a minor operation and can be done under local anesthetic.

Lipoma: Surgical excision of the lipoma is the best option. You'll need to get the complete fatty tumor removed in totality which is why "lipo" is not recommended. Hope this helps.
