Vitreous traction: One possible cause is tension or pulling on the small fibers in the vitreous jelly of the eye.  It would be best to have an exam with your eye doctor to make sure that there is not a retina problem.

Hypnic migranes: There are a number of headache  conditions that can be worsened during sleep.  Specifically sleep is a quiescent state.  Getting to sleep is a transitional state and sometimes this is limbo when migranes occur.  Also if there is a primary sleep disorder, specifically apnea, oxygen levels may cause spasm of blood vessels making this more likely.

Myoclonus jerks: It is common to have involuntary jerk in a limb or entire body when you are falling asleep. It happens in the initial stage of sleep and is entirely benign. Even babies have it.

I : I can understand why this would be scary.  You may try to think if there is something that had scared you recently, like a movie or something you heard on the news.  Try to avoid your computer for an hour or two before bedtime, and limit any watching of the news to half an hour a day or less.  Take a hot bath about 1-2 hours before bed, and then keep your room cool (65 degrees or so ) at night.  Avoid any caffeine before bed.

Post Exercise: It sure sounds like you are not giving your muscles time to recover after such a long and vigorous workout.. This means hydration with the appropriate electrolytes, winding down with post exercise slow cycling, walking (just like one warms up one should warm down; and the slow post exercise stretching!
