Relieve pain: Trigger points are areas of the nervous system considered extra sensitive to stimuli which normally would cause no problem but since they are hypersensitive - they cause pain and other symptoms.  Injection of numbing medication or anti-inflammatories can relieve the local stress and cut down the frequency of attacks; occasionally curing the problem.

Every 2-4 weeks: Depends on what your insurance will approve. For most of my patients I can do them every 2-4 weeks.

Muscle knot shot: A trigger point is a local island of muscle spasm or muscle knot.  The application of a needle with or without injectant can cause the muscle to release or relax toward normalcy.

Steroid: Usually steroid is injected to minimize inflammation at the trigger point and allow normal function to restore itself.

Most Probably: Trigger point injections will most probably hurt during the administration, but it will relieve the existing pain so you gain more physical function (the huge gain is worth the fleeting pain). For joint trigger point injections that are not in the spine, you will probably not need an iv.

If done correctly : And your symptom of trigger is mild to moderate stage should last at least couple months. In Severe case then it may not work or doesn&#x27;t last as long.

No hard &amp; fast rule: The only way to know is to have it done and see how you respond. Trigger-point injections can be remarkably effective, but everyone is different. If you need more done, more can always be done. Cross that bridge when you come to it.

I have not heard: of that occurring due to trigger point injection. What was the trigger point injected with. I would consult back with the doctor who performed the injection.

It depends on what: Solution is used. If it is only lidocaine or mixture of saline and lido it can done monthly. But if there is steroid mix within, then should be much less frequent and I do not advocate for any steroid use as it really doesn't provide any additional benefit base on current medical evidence.
