What are trigger point injections given for?

Relieve pain: Trigger points are areas of the nervous system considered extra sensitive to stimuli which normally would cause no problem but since they are hypersensitive - they cause pain and other symptoms. Injection of numbing medication or anti-inflammatories can relieve the local stress and cut down the frequency of attacks; occasionally curing the problem.

Trigger points: Trigger points are "knots" in muscular tissue. Usually the injections are given when those knots do not respond to less invasive treatment.
