For what?: As a sleep agent? Trazodone is not MY favorite drug for just about anything.....don't get me wrong....it's not an evil drug....but it's not particularly clean in its side effects.  Notorious for causing terrible headaches, makes some people blithering idiots the next morning, and reacts with a lot of stuff. If amitriptyline is giving you too many side effects how about nortriptyline?

i take trazodone for sleep make me sleep in 10 min but i dont sleep more then 5h do u think elavil (amitriptyline) make me sleep fast as trazodone and sleep longer?

Trazodone doesn't: usually act this way.  It typically takes longer to act, and puts people out longer, with a longer hang over the next morning than Elavil (amitriptyline) or other sleep aids.   Elavil (amitriptyline) is another antidepressant in this class, but has a bad reputation for side effects, mostly weight gain (not so for Trazodone).   Check with your MD for dosages and also for alternative sleepers...

i've been taking 10mg of amitriptyline for 6 months nightly. i'm being switched to 50mg of trazodone nightly. will i get any withdrawals from this? should i taper off the amitriptyline first?

: No real side effects are expected coming off of 10 mg of amitriptyline but you could cut the 10 mg pill in calf and use that for 3-5 days.  Good luck!

i have g a d, an in borne genetic anxiety disorder.i am on effexor amitriptyline and trazodone.i am fed up of meds . is this disease curable.thanks?

GAD: Please do not change your medications w/out the guidance of your doctor.  Choose one, perhaps your primary care doctor, since he/she looks at your overall health picture.  Have you seen a psychologist for other kinds of help such as clinical hypnosis (see www.asch.net), biofeedback, or psychotherapy?  All if these can help w/anxiety.  Peace and good health.

They can - it depens (penicillamine): It depends on why you are taking these meds, what doses, and how quickly they each were added to your regimen.  Further - weakness means different things to different people, a further clarificationof weakness is needed before guessing/diagnosing whether your medicines are contributing to it.

Are you treating you: treating self? Medications may offer marginal help until the cause of your insomnia is identified and managed appropritely. See a doctor for full physical and mental evaluation

Anxiety/sedation: Other alternatives can include sedating ssri's such as paxil, (paroxetine) or antihistamines such as vistaril, both at night. Discuss with your primary care doc.

Problematic: It is simplistic to say "dangerous," although that particular combination sounds problematic. The degree of risk would be dose-dependent. The interaction would likely include synergistic sedation, requiring clinical warning, and additional synergistic side effects, such as weight gain. But the combination raises questions about  appropriateness: possibly a poor choice in an augmentation strategy.

i am prescribed .50mg xanax (alprazolam) 3/daily, 75mg amitriptyline, and 50mg trazadone. i'm 6'1, 232 male. is this safe?

Be Cautious : This combination of medication is very sedating. You should discuss risks, benefits and side effects with your doctor. Always take your medicine as prescribed. Don't drink alcohol with your medicine and don't combine your medicine with other medication without discussing with your healthcare provider. I recommend you not drive after taking your medicine at night.
