toothache, blood pressure has been around 118/84 to 137/91 i think due to pain. taking metoprolol 25mg suc er. is it ok to take ibuprofen for pain relief & what dosage? 500mg tylenol doesn't work well. taking amoxicillin also. thank you in advance.

Balance: It would be best to have your Dentist and y9our Cardiologist speak to each other if there are medication questions, rather than going go a 3rd party that does not know your health history or your overall medication list. In general, Ibuprofen in dosage as directed on the package is safe, but check in with your personal health care providers first.

Maybe: If the toothache is accompanied with anxiety of having the tooth treated by visiting to a dentist, then it can cause a higher blood pressure. Anytime there is an infection in the body, it may cause higher blood pressure. However, this doesn't mean that there could be other causes  for the high blood pressure. It is better to see your primary care doctor, as well as your dentist to determine cause.

Depends: Severe toothache can and does elevate the blood pressure, specially when accompanied by anxiety of going to the dentist. But, having said that, it is always more prudent to have your  BP checked by your primary care physician. If they give you the go ahead, then make sure you have your teeth checked by your  dentist, and have him/her treat any dental disease.

what else can one take otc for pain beside tylenol if they have high blood pressure? what can they alternate it with to help relief pain for a toothache. dentist will not open until monday.

Pain relief: You could try applying an alcohol soaked cotton ball to the aching tooth or swish salt water on the aching area. If your blood pressure is well controlled, and especially if you take a diuretic, and you need pain relief,I think you could take an ibuprofen or naproxen sparingly ( unless you can't take them for other reasons) along with Tylenol to get some relief until you see the dentist.

Upper respiratory : Sounds like you have a virus. Get some rest, eat properly, push fluids.
