is all this green mucus my scabs coming off after tonsillectomy?

Healing: After the tonsillectomy the area where the tonsils used to be can turn white and then slowly return to pink. This is the natural course. Scabs are usually dark black/red spots and usually only in a few locations (they dont cover the entire area).

i am 8 days post tonsillectomy & still in severe pain. my scabs do not appear to have fallen off but there is lots of redness. should i be concerned?

Well...: Tough to say.  Your surgeon would know your case best of course, so be sure to call them with your concerns.  In general, because a person needs to eat/drink, they will always have some constant "friction" against the surgical site that is trying to heal, so any oral surgery can take long to heal.  Be sure to follow up with your surgeon.  Best wishes.

Yes, but: I have seen a rare patient bleed over 2 weeks following a tonsillectomy. That, again, is rare. If you still are not healed and have scans it's a good idea not to be too aggressive with hard foods.

No Bleeding is rare: If your surgery is indicated , is a our patient low risk procedure , yes any wound scab will form ,rare occasions bleeding  can  occur.  Speak to you doctor about bebifts and risks.

It may: It may take another week. You may still not be able to eat solid foods.

Unusual: Adults having tonsillectomy usually have a more difficult recovery than young children. The tissue is highly vascular and always moist. However, one would not expect significant blood a week post-op. Perhaps the surgeon should be consulted.

14 days past tonsillectomy. still seem to have very thick scabs covering about half of each wound. normal/common? when is the latest they should fall off? should i expect more increase in pain when they do? what is the chance of bleeding?

Otolaryngologist: I don't see anything unusual here, but I think you should ask your Otolaryngologist this question as he/she may want to check your throat. I wouldn't expect an increase in pain now but slight bleeding can occur.  The Otolaryngologist can answer your questions best.

Be patient: The best thing to do is follow your post surgery instructions diligently to facilitate proper recovery and healing of the tonsil beds. Early displacement of the scabs can lead to bleeding and possible return to the operating room.

Patient, be patient: Get info & help from surgeon - report bleeding. Ask for help to reduce dry heaves - any irritation in throat area is to be avoided if possible. Usually pain meds are stopped at 10 days, but you may hurt longer - protect scabs - they protect you. Drink water as much as you can - enjoy smoothies, ice-cream.
