They would be the most knowledgeable as to who would be best to perform surgery if that was necessary. Having said that, if your local DDS  can&#x27;t recommend someone, ask at local Dental School affiliated teaching Hospital

TMJ may be from bite: Tmj is a syndrome that presents with many symptoms, and may be cause by many factors. There are studies indicating that TMJ is due to and caused by bite discrepancies. Many believe this, and therefore, you should have your dentist evaluate your occlusion. Sometimes adjusting your bite and making a bite guard may eliminate your symptoms and headaches. Good luck!

TMD: For most patients splint therapy along with reviewing habits that could be leading to this. Splint therapy a night guard. Some patients may need NSAIDS and a soft diet along with muscle relaxants. People with severe issues could require surgery but surgery typically has a poor outcome

TMJ: TMJ is a chronic condition caused by stress and involves jaw clenching. Hopefully you have a bite guard to protect your teeth/molars at night. If you are experiencing pain and swelling in the TMJ area, use Ibuprofen 400-600mg 4 times a day for 5 days to alleviate the inflammation and pain. Do not use for longer than 10 days as it can irritate the lining of your stomach. You can continue ice packs.
