Relax your jaw: Unless there has been some type of trauma to the face or jaw (like getting hit or punched, or falling on your chin), or if there is arthritis in the jaw joint, most TMJ pain is due to grinding or clenching your teeth.

The best way to relieve the pain is to not grind or clench your teeth.  Unless you are chewing food, your teeth should not be touching.  

Check  your dentist about a night guard.

Yes, depends....: Tmj related pain may be caused due to several reasons and may be realted to muscles of mastication, ligament, capsulitis, retrodiscitis, arthritis etc. Only a TMJ specialist or your dds can determine the cause. If the cause is solely muscle related, then yes, jaw excercises can help. These include slowly streching your massater muscles by opening while applying moist heat to your face.

can you get on treadmill to exercise if you have tmj? i have high bpressure but take meds. will exercisse make it worse for me? i need to exercise!!

See your dentust: It shouldn't be a problem to use a treadmill with tmj.  Ask your dentist to make you an occlusal gaurd so your teeth aren't clenched during strenuous workouts.  This soft plastic cushions your teeth and relieves joint stress.  Hope this helps!

i have tmj issues, both from clenching & wisdom extract. 4+ yrs ago. tried dentist suggest.s. what exercise can train my jaw to stop clenching?

Reflect on stresses in life- relationship, marriage, separation, unresolved feelings of worry, fear, hurt, resentment and guilt; work and finances. See a Psychiatrist
Do Breathing and Music Relaxation, Yoga, Meditation.
Continue with Dentist.

what to do if i have tmj and alot of stiffness, should i try to exercise my jaw or will that make it worse?

Stiffness  symptom: Stiffness in the jaw can come from arthritis of the bone, dysfunction (loose or torn) TMJ ligaments, or muscle (spasm, trigger points or inflammation) problems. The first thing to do, is to get the diagnosis confirmed as to which of these are involved, one or all three. Then design a treatment plan to address each. Many dentists are not equipped to do this, thus a TMJ specialist is needed.

is tinnitus caused by tmj permanent? is exercise of back and neck a good home remedy for tmj?

Tinnitus: Tinnitus is complicated and you need to be certain if it's caused by tmj. You need a hearing test and further workup by ent. Tmj is treated conservatively by anti inflammatories (which can exacerbate tinnitus)  jaw exercises, night guard and may need evaluation by an oral surgeon

Possibly: If you clench your teeth while you are exercising then  YES exercising will cause your TMJ to hurt. Try to find activities that will help you to relax. Avoid very sticky and chewy foods.  Moist heat will sometimes help relax the muscles as well. If problem continues than see a dentist who specializes in TMJ dysfunction and facial pain.

my right side of jaw is clicking&popping when i eat . . i read on net its tmj and i am dong some exercises. . i cant see a doc help me to do it on own?

TMJ treatment: Understanding that the best and perhaps the only way to properly treat the causes of TMJoint symptoms is by an evaluation and treatment by a trained dentist, there are some palliative steps you can take. Eat soft foods, do not chew gum, apply hot moist heat to the outside of face just in front of ears, take NSAID medications when\if you have acute pain. See also comment below:

everyday i have drowsiness, temple pain, cheek/eye pain. tmj like symptoms. it's hard to exercise. feel faint. feel heart pounding in abs and chest?

See your MD ASAP: these are too many signs /symptoms to NOT be something that could be serious. Schedule a visit with your MD to have your blood pressure checked, stress test, bold tests etc. there could be a serious underlying factor here. You could also see a dentist who treats TMD but I think you need to be cleared medically first.

should i get surgery for tmj? the pain has gotten worse lately, but its still not usually too terrible. ive heard that sometimes surgery can cause worse problems than the tmj.

Surgery : Surgery would be my treatment of last resort. A night guard or other occlusal appliance, stress relief, medication to relax muscles are better treatment options.
