i hear weird thumping sound in my ear. i don't think it's a sound of heartbeat, because it's usually very fast. thoughts?

Check w/ your ENT: But most likely you are hearing a spasm of your stapedius muscle in your ear. This tiny muscle contracting can cause your ear bones and ear drum to tremor, which might sound like thumping or a drum beating.  It is generally not a problem or sign of any serious issues. FromThJawbonesOfFish: I'll bet you are having a nervous twitch of the stapedius muscle that regulates tension on the ear drum.It's the smallest muscle in the body attached to the smallest bone.The ear bones ('ossicles') are, evolutionarily related to the jaw bones of fishes! So,like a nervous twitch of the lip or eyelid,etc.for some reason you get it  in the ear. The 'thump' is the sound of the ear drum quickly tensing

How rapid vs. pulse: rate? Though rare to be this, it could reflect major cardiovascular disease in your middle cerebral artery; one portion located just deep to the middle ear cavity, next to the cochlea. If the RATE &amp; timing matches the pulse in you neck (carotid artery), it could reflect a complication of artery ds. &amp; be a warning sign of an impending major stroke. The thumping sound: in the ear suggests the cause is turbulent blood flow.  This may come from an obstruction of an artery near the ear, or an AVM/arteriovenous malformation where artery and vein connections meet.  Because you are also dizzy there is more concern. See your doctor as soon as possible for an evaluation.  While unlikely, an impending stroke assessment should be done. Good wishes:)

Could be: And could be your external left ear, don't stick anything in your ear though, use the saline nasal washes and the nasal sprays prescribed to you, if no improvement, see your doctor/ENT, good luck

ENT: Need evaluation by ENT for blockage of Eustachian tubes or many other possible ear or sinus illnesses. May also need CT or MRI to evaluate pain behind ear. If you have sinus problems also need to inform physician of that.

Water in ear: Hi,
The water in your external ear canal will eventually dry out on its own. Avoid putting things into your ear, like cotton balls, Q-tips, etc. As far as the thumping sounds, you can also hear that as part of the water moving around in your ear. Nothing to worry about, it should go away on its own. Hope this helps
