Sciatic heel pain: Sciatic pain localized to the heel and achilles tendon is most likely related to compression and/or irritation of the s1 nerve root. The dermatomal distribution of the s1 nerve root includes the buttocks, hamstrings, calves, achilles, heels, and outer ankle/foot. Other non-spine etiologies of achilles/heel pain include achilles tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, and calcaneal stress fractures.

: Hi,

This could just be tendons snapping against the bone with movement. It could also be subluxating peroneal tendons behind the fibula on the outer aspect of the ankle.

If it is painful or persistent a visit with an orthopedic surgeon is warranted.

Back of Heel?: Assuming you are talking about the achilles tendon, then you may have pulled this large tendon and you may have an achilles tendonitis. Think "rice": rest, ice, compression, elevation.  Heel lifts/heel cups can also help to take tension off of the tendon. When returning to activity you want to focus on increasing flexibility or stretching the achilles tendon. Bottom of heel, see plantar fasciitis.

They can be..: Peroneus longus, , brevis or both?  Longus plantarflexes the 1st metatarsal, to a tear can result in hypermobility and instability which can lead to hyperpronation and plantar fasciitis symptoms.  Now, if you're talking about posterior tibial tendon dysfunction/tears, then for certain there can be a relationship.

Trauma/age: Pttd or tear is very common in females. It is usually due to activities, flat foot, shoe gear and possible hormonal changes and pregnancies. The reason why the inside of your heel hurts, it is due the pathway the tendon travels. If MRI has been done and a tear is detected, many things could be done. Bracing, orthotics, and surgery can help. See a podiatrist.

Plantar fasciitis: This sounds like you had plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. These two conditions commonly occur together.  If the whole ankle now hurts other things could be going on as well so you should see a foot and ankle specialist and start doing some Achilles tendon stretching several times a day.

The type of surgery that is involved all depends upon the extent of the posterior calcaneal bony protrusion.: Hello, 
Depending on the size and location of the prominence, a surgeon maybe able to get a way with removing as much of the prominence as he can without detaching the tendon. The recovery time on this would be fairly less involved 4-6 weeks with rehab. If fairly large, one would need to detach and reattach the tendon to remove the protrusion which will increase recovery, taking 3-4 months with PT

Equinus: After sitting for awhile or after sleep our calf muscles, achilles tendon and plantar fascia tighten. When we get up first steps in the am or after sitting we expect them to have the flexibility and stretch that we need to walk. However, in some cases tight musclegroups or tendons and fascia require additional stretching and in some cases a night splint. Getting on a stretching program will help.
