No: There are multiple medications we use for muscle spasticity to varying degrees of help including flexeril, zanaflex, soma, baclofen, Valium, and skelaxin (metaxalone) just to name a few.  Discuss directly with your doctor what would be best for you.

i have had spasticity with full body muscle spasms(especially in feet) and stiffness for 6 weeks. along with light tingling and feeling of weakness in left hand. does this mean i have als? note: i've had two mri's and both came back normal?

: ALS needs a good clinical as well as lab work in addition NRI.  It could be something else too. Pl see a good neurologist. Wish you well

How old are you: There is a blood vessel in the temporalis muscle caled the temporal artery. It can get  inflammed wiht what  we  call temporal arteritis. This can be very serious and you need to conact your physician. This usually occurs when we are older. It this is not the case  you need to evaauted to see the cause of this. If itis you may need a temporal artery biopsy to help decide therapy.

Chewing: Do you chew gum? Do you have tmj? How long has the pain lasted? What caused the pain to start? What have you tried to relieve the pain? Best to see a doctor.

Likely not nerve: Temporalis wasting is probably  from transection and reattachment of the muscle, retraction, as well undermining and devascularing it, often with the use of cautery.

Temporalis: Most commonly this occurs with TMJ syndrome and bruxism, i.e. grinding. Try soft foods for a few days. no excessive chewing, no hard food substances, no jowling. no gum chewing, no hard candies. Take ibuprofen.

Facial spasms: Can be caused by low calcium levels.  Or imbalance of hormones like your parathyroid hormone. You need to see a doctor

: What difference would that make. Temporalis does not extend to behind the ear. It you have trigeminal neuralgia, the treatment would be the same irrespective of the pain distribution.

why massaging my temporalis muscle fixes my tooth sensitivity/lip tingling? is there a relation between this muscle and the upper teeth/lip?

Common nerves: The temporalis muscle is controlled by a branch of the same cranial nerve that gives sensory innervation to the face, teeth, tongue, maxilla and mandible. The 5th cranial nerve or trigeminal nerve is a very large nerve with 3 major sensory branches and motor nerve branches to the muscles of mastication. The temporalis muscle happens to be one of those muscles.
