how are chronic severe headaches related to tbi treated?

Depends: If you have frequent or episodic severe headaches, we often prescribe anticonvulsant medications  to help lessen severity and frequency or prevent the headaches.  Magnesium can be helpful for some as well, used in doses of 400-600 mg per day, and i prefer magnesium glycinate.

See below: Any time there is a loss of cortical inhibitory tone to the pain centers, chronic pain can develop.  Tbi could lead to this.

No: You may well have a seizure disorder triggered by fatigue or fluorescent lights. See a neurologist.

MRI and neuro exam: Neurological evaluation, mri, neuropsychological testing, cognitive evaluation, and functional evaluation are tests performed for tbi.

Head injury: Brain trauma can cause problems with memory, focus, concentration, organizational skills, ability to do mathmatical calculations, and judgement.   Emotional associations include anxiety, panic attacks, depression, etc.

Not the TBI: Not a usual result from the tbi itself but may be due to the trauma that caused the tbi. Often the main concern after trauma is the major injury. After this is treated then many secondary injuries become evident. The neck may have been injured as well.

Yes: Traumatic brain injury leaves permanent damage or scarring in the brain. Recovery happens as the brain learns and creates new pathways to work around some of the problems. Stress, physical illness, exhaustion and re-injury can all make symptoms temporarily return or show more, but then can get better again. A great reference is dr. Norman doidge's book, "the brain that changes itself.".
