how do i get rid of this bad smell and taste after root canal?

RCT Taste/smell: If this smell/taste is right after rct (root canal therapy), and it is from the sedative filling placed, this will quickly decrease over time. Sedative filling used after rct typically smells like clove.  If your rct was not recently done, or you think the smell ; taste is not just from the new filling, please check back with the dentist. This may indicates some leakage or re-infection.

How much time ?: Temporary restorations do not last more than a couple of weeks. Hard to know exactly what is occurring inside that tooth. Please see the dentist who is treating you. If you have a final restoration, it might be leaking.

had root canal done almost a month ago over my crown, still have bitter taste/smell (hasn't gotten any better). was told to get a new crown at some point even though i just got it early this year. will getting a new crown fix this problem?

: If you had this crown made less than a year ago, there should be no issues. The odor/taste may be from a different issue. This needs further investigation.

Temporary Dressing: Good day;
  Temporary endodontic  dressings are not taste sensitive. Most likely some of the temporary sealant  came out of the tooth and you are tasting chemicals used in root canal treatment. Contact DDS who is treating tooth and replace temporary filling with a non tasting inert material.

Bitter taste: You need to discuss this with your own dentist. I don&#x27;t think what you are experiencing is related to any lingering medications used during RCT, especially if the tooth had a permanent crown cemented on over it. A temporary crown may have cement that leaches medication. If necessary get a second opinion from another dentist.

Drainage: There may be drainage of bacteria from either end of the treated tooth, or the temporary filling may be reaching down.  Please call the Dentist or Endodontic Specialist who did your treatment and review your concerns.  Additional treatment may be required.

Yes and No: Many teeth feel "different" for a while after root canal therapy.  This may or may not resolve over time.  It is always advised to monitor the tooth, usually at 6 months or a year.  This can early detect potential problems. The bad taste can come from many sources, not always your tooth.  One possibility is a temporary filling material dissolving in saliva.  If there is a temp, get it replaced.

Bloody Taste: There can be many reasons for the coppery "bloody" taste in your mouth, and may or may not be related to your root canal treatment. The only way to determine the cause is to return to the General Dentist or Specialist Endodontist who did your treatment for a reevaluation.

can dysgeusia occur after taking amoxicillin? back in october, i had to take amoxicillin before getting the root canal done. ever since the procedure i've had altered taste and smell (not covid related). asked many dentists and they didn't help?

: Not possible to diagnose without exam. Best not to take it again and see an ENT MD. Amoxicillin causing this is very rare.

i have an infected tooth that needs root canal but i was put on antibiotics first. been on them since thur. evening i have no appetite today nauseous& can taste the sourness. should the tooth be drained or should i finish the antibiotics before then?

: Continue with the antibiotics and see your dentist to start the root canal therapy at your scheduled appointment.
